A few months ago I got contacted by The Ollie World to partner with them! I was absolutely ecstatic because I actually used their swaddles for my own kids.. and when I say I've tried a lot of different swaddles, I mean A LOT. I cannot live without these so I decided to come up with a list of my top five MUST have newborn items. Now, just a little disclaimer here - I am no expert, but I've worked with hundreds of newborns in my studio for newborn sessions and I do have three kids of my own. That being said, I am all for making this crazy motherhood thing a little easier and sometimes having all the gadgets helps so much!
So here is my list of top 5 MUST HAVE newborn items! One other disclaimer - These are NOT affiliate links. I would never recommend anything I didn't use myself and absolutely love.
1st is - THE OLLIE SWADDLE! (Saw that one comin' didn't you?)
I have tried almost every swaddle under the moon and let me just say that velcro makes a huge difference! The Ollie Swaddle is made of super breathable fabric and has the strongest velcro to help keep your little one safe and secure. There are three different velcro pieces in order to keep it tight around the tops of the arms and looser around their hips and feet. Swaddling your baby while they sleep makes them feel so secure and can help tame their startle reflex that will disrupt them so much after birth. Also, just because something is labeled as a "swaddle blanket" doesn't mean it should actually be used for sleep. Make sure to get an actual swaddle for sleeping.
2nd - THE DOHM WHITE NOISE MACHINE
Living in a rambler, this thing SAVED me during the day when my older kids were running around and my little one needed to sleep. Did you know that it's actually extremely loud inside the womb? Almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Having a noise machine will keep your baby from being startled by loud noises, but will also help remind them of the womb.
3rd - THE SNUGGLE ME
I absolutely loved this pillow because my third is a baby who NEVER wants to be set down! This pillow helps them feel like they are being held and keeps them so secure.
4th - ROCK N' PLAY
This is something I didn't have with my first two kids and boy I wish I did! This is such a handy place to set your baby down anytime you need your hands free. It's higher than a bouncer so you don't have to lean all the way over (helps so much with those c section mama's!) and it keeps their head a little higher up so it keeps your baby comfortable especially if they suffer from reflux. Plus it's so easy to carry from room to room so you are able to bring baby with you!
5th - WUBBANUB
This one just makes me giggle because as a newborn photographer, I absolutely HATE these. But as a mama, it's one of my favorite things ever! Not only do they look cute, but they are weighted so you can lay it right on your little one's chest and it actually STAYS in their mouths. And when baby's do spit it out, it's not going to go rolling!
Annnd there's my list! Do you use any of these with your babies? Comment below with any MUST HAVE items that I missed!
